Responses to the readings | lines and rhythm

Jumping right into lines: I like how Lupton broke down the line in many aspects. There are just principles dealing with lines that you really don't think about. Like that a single line can be a positive and negative element to a composition. Or the explanation of line weights. Transitioning from lines to planes, saying that depending on the line weight, a line can really be a plane.
I really enjoyed the picture examples of a plane, using the planes to create type. Lupton explained that a field of a text is made of points and lines. Designers use planes to experiment with type, using different line spacing and width change.

We usually think of music when talking about rhythm. Designers use layer and repetition of shapes and lines, including width changes and sizing to display rhythm. Instead of audio we use our sight to see the visual rhythms.
Placing is used to lead the viewer throughout the piece. Designers use placement to keep the viewer interested and to portray their meaning. We are also using placement as a key element in our current line studies and throughout the overall project. We will be using placement across our spreads to create a unified piece.
